NOTICEBOARD

Notice regarding bushfires in NSW

Capital Neurosurgery would like to extend our thoughts and sympathies to those affected by the bushfires across the country. If you have an upcoming appointment or surgery and have been impacted by the fires please let our staff know. As we are experiencing hazardous air quality in Canberra at the moment we would recommend - if at all possible - to arrange to be dropped at the entrance of the hospital for your consultation or surgery to minimise exposure to the smoke.

Dr Peter Mews will be ceasing private practice from

1 March 2020 but will still continue to practise as a Neurosurgeon at The Canberra Hospital.

If you require ongoing neurosurgical treatment through the private hospital you have the option to see Dr Justin Pik or

Dr Michael Ow-Yang from Capital Neurosurgery.

If you would like to continue treatment with Dr Mews you may contact The Canberra Hospital Neurosurgery Department on (02) 5124 4080.

Our practice is very pleased to host

Dr Erica Jacobson, who visits the practice

once a month from Sydney.

Bookings can be made through her Sydney practice on (02) 9326 6140.

Dr Jacobson's specialty interests include paediatric neurosurgery, tumours, epilepsy surgery, hydrocephalus and decompression spine surgery.

The Australian Medical Association has released a new guide on 23 July 2019 titled "Informed Financial Consent: A Collaboration Between Doctors and Patients".

What is a Neurosurgeon?

Neurosurgeons are medical doctors who

specialise in surgical treatment of patients

with neurological conditions.

Their specialty training includes diagnosis

and treatment of disorders of the brain,

spine, spinal cord, nerves as well as the blood vessels of the brain and spinal cord.

All of our Neurosurgeons have completed Australian postgraduate qualifications in Neurosurgery as well as additional sub-specialty Fellowship training overseas.

Patients are usually referred to a Neurosurgeon to determine whether surgery would be an appropriate treatment option for their symptoms.
