Preparing for your appointment
You will need a referral from your doctor to make an appointment to see our neurosurgeons. This referral will also allow you to claim a Medicare rebate for part of the cost of your consultation. Please note that referrals usually expire after 12 months from General Practitioners and 3 months from Specialists.
Our staff may ask you to post, fax or email your referral and test results to the clinic so that your doctor can see them prior to your appointment.
You will receive an SMS reminder two to three days before your appointment. Please confirm your appointment via an SMS reply. If you do not have a mobile phone please call the clinic a few days prior to your appointment to confirm. We do have many patients waiting for appointments so we would appreciate at least 24 hours notice of cancellation so that another patient may be seen at that time.
In order to access your CT / MRI scans online the doctor will need to know where your films were done. Please bring the written report or the films on a disc. Any scans performed in the public hospital will need to be brought on disc as the hospitals do not allow online access for viewing.
If your appointment is covered under Workcover or a Third Party insurance claim, written approval needs to have been received by the practice prior to your appointment.
If you are a new patient, we would suggest you arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment time to allow time for parking, locating our clinic and completing some paperwork.
FOR CANBERRA APPOINTMENTS:
The National Capital Private Hospital / Canberra Hospital campus is a busy area so please allow extra time for parking. Parking is available in the large multi-storey carpark adjacent to The Canberra Hospital and there is also limited timed parking in the surrounding streets and behind the Private Hospital. The Canberra Hospital provides a Courtesy Bus that operates on a continuous loop around the hospital campus.
There is a drop off zone at the main entrance to the hospital (on Hospital Road) and we encourage patients with limited mobility to arrange for someone to drop them off there before finding a park. Once inside the Private Hospital take the lift to Level 5 and turn left, we are located along the corridor in Suite 15.
Preoperative Information Sessions
For patients undergoing spinal surgery we offer complimentary group pre-operative information sessions with our Practice Nurse. These sessions describe your postoperative care and address any queries you may have about your hospital stay and your recovery. Sessions are available Tuesdays and Fridays at 1-1:30pm for non-fusion spinal surgery and 2-2:30pm for spinal fusion and disc replacement surgery. Please call to make a booking.
We strongly recommend this information session to any patients undergoing a spinal fusion procedure.
